The David Anderson Collection

A collection of theatre programmes from Glasgow amateur theatre and operatic clubs.

About the collection

A collection of theatre programmes from three of Glasgow's amateur theatre and operatic clubs: The Minerva Club, The Apollo Players and The Pantheon Club. They date from the 1960s, 1970s and 1982 & 1983. There are also musical scores for a number of different productions including The Pyjama Game, Kiss Me Kate, Paint Your Wagon and Oliver!

The Minerva Club was founded in Cranstonhill in 1927 and still going strong today. The amateur theatre company The Apollo Players was found in 1966 by Dixie Carr, John Carlyle, Bill McGregor and Ken Bamborough. They had their last production in 2018. Born in a Glasgow coffee house in 1926, The Pantheon Club was established to 'embrace the arts of theatre, singing and drama' and was where a number of well-known Scottish entertainers such Molly Weir, Rikki Fulton and Stewart MacLean first performed. The club is still performing today.
