A collection of material relating to the disaster at the Ibrox Football Stadium disaster in January 1971, received from Dallas, McMillan & Sinclair, Solicitors.


About the Ibrox Disaster

Until the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989, the Ibrox Disaster was the worst football disaster in Britain. On 2 January 1971, during an Old Firm match between Celtic and Rangers at Ibrox, 66 football supporters were crushed to death on an exit stairway. Over 200 people were also injured. A Sheriff’s judgement ruled that the owners of the stadium, Rangers FC, were at fault. 


About the collection

The collection consists of papers received from Dallas, McMillan & Sinclair, Solicitors relating to the disaster at the Ibrox Football Stadium disaster in January 1971. It comprises material relating to the Inquiry into the disaster, including 7 volumes of the Report of Proceedings, material relating to the compensation case brought by relatives again Rangers Football Club and press cuttings relating both to the disaster itself and the subsequent compensation case.

The collection also includes some earlier material such as reports on improvement to the ground that took place in the 1960s and a report from the Fatal Accident Inquiry into two deaths in 1961.
