Book Groups are a great way to discover new books to read and meet new people.
Many Glasgow libraries have book groups – they meet once a month to discuss one or two books, supplied by the library service.
Book groups are free, relaxed and informal – joining one is a great way to meet other readers and discover new authors.
Hurricane Book Group
Hurricane Book Club is a remote book club running online, in bookshops and libraries across Scotland with special events at Glasgow Libraries.
Join Glasgow Libraries, Orkney Library & Archive and Falkirk Community Trust Libraries for the third season of the popular Twitter book club – The Hurricane Book Club.
Each of the three titles has a two-month slot culminating in simultaneous Hurricane Book Club meetings at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, Orkney Library and Falkirk Library, with a live Twitter discussion, so the libraries can interact with each other and anyone, anywhere can join in too. The first meeting is at 6pm on Thursday 22 February, the second at 6pm on Thursday 26 April and the third is on Thursday 28 June at 6pm.
This third season of the book club runs from January to June 2018, with three titles specially selected by Picador’s Senior Commissioning Editor, Kris Doyle. They are: Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka, a major American debut about the mysterious death of a small-town golden girl and the secret lives of three people connected to her; Let Go My Hand by Edward Docx, a brilliant, darkly funny and deeply moving novel about a dysfunctional family and their final chance to fix things; Island of Dreams by Dan Boothby, an intensely personal memoir about the search for home.
Readers anywhere can follow and participate in the discussion through the Glasgow Libraries Twitter account @GlasgowLib, Orkney Library’s @orkneylibrary, the Falkirk Community Trust Libraries @LibFalkirk and the hashtag #HurricaneBookClub
