About Bill Craig
During his 40-year career, Glasgow-born Bill Craig (1930-2002) wrote some 400 scripts for television. He began as a reporter on the Scottish Daily Express before moving to London in 1955 to try his hand at television. TV serials gave him his first break and his early writing credits appeared on Compact and Probation Officer. He was a lead writer on the BBC's long-running Dr Finlay's Casebook and in the 1970s, he adapted Sunset Song, Cloud Howe and Grey Granite to great acclaim for the BBC. He contributed to Callan for ATV and wrote many episodes for the BBC's The Borderers. A President of the Writers' Guild, he worked tirelessly for his fellow writers. He was a brilliant negotiator and a fervent campaigner and was held in high esteem by entertainment unions both here and overseas.
