A collection of the works of Robert Louis Stevenson as well as bibliographies, biography and articles about the author.
About William Gemmell
William Gemmell (1859-1919) was born in Glasgow and was educated at the George Square Academy and at the High School. He studied medicine at the University of Glasgow, graduating MB cm in 1888. He was appointed one of the Resident Physicians in the Royal Infirmary, and subsequently joined that staff of the City Fever Hospitals.
He entered upon medical practice in London, retiring to Glasgow at the end of seventeen years. With his leisure time he devoted himself to historical and archaeological pursuits.vIn 1910 he published a history of the pre-reformation house known as Provand’s Lordship and established its antiquity as “The Oldest House in Glasgow”.
In his later years he was a Councillor for the Jordanhill Ward. In 1917 he was elected Magistrate of the City. He was also designated for the Convenorship of the Libraries Committee.
Gemmell died on April 2, 1919 as a result of an accident.

The collection consists of almost 200 items, dating from the early 19th century to the early 20th century. It includes works by Robert Louis Stevenson as well as bibliographies, biographies and magazine articles about the author.
