Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge Scotland encourages children aged 4-11 to read for fun over the holidays, a time when traditionally literacy levels dip.
Join the Summer Reading Challenge
Children can take part in the challenge this year by joining the Gadgeteers on a platform developed and hosted by The Reading Agency – and set their own personal reading challenge goals to complete this summer. The platform will keep track of books read, book reviews and rewards that each child unlocks along the way.
From 18th June kids can sign up for the Summer Reading at our Libraries.

Learn more about the Summer Reading Challenge
Run in partnership with The Reading Agency and Scottish libraries, the programme encourages children to read for fun and to continue to develop this fundamental life skill.
More than 40,000 children take the challenge annually reading over quarter of a million books in the process.
Children can read whatever they like - fiction, fact books, poetry, joke books, picture books, audio books - just as long as they are borrowed from the library.
This is a beautifully illustrated picture book by a renowned cosmologist which introduces young readers to the smallest bits of matter known to exist. In rhyme, it shows the wonders of our universe and encourages children to dream of making their own scientific discoveries. There's an excellent illustrated "Know Your Neutrinos" section at the end for readers who want to learn more.
RNIB Library makes a selection of Summer Reading Challenge books available in accessible formats for blind or partially sighted children, and for children with a print disability who cannot read standard print.
For children wanting to complete the Challenge, RNIB Library has thousands of children's titles in audio, braille and Giant Print formats. Audio books can be sent on DAISY CD or memory stick. Their Kids and Teen page has a list of some of their most popular titles if you're not sure what to read next.
