Resources for Business Start-Ups

This session is aimed at anyone thinking about starting a business or becoming self-employed. Attendees will be shown how to make use of specialist business information databases available through membership of Glasgow Libraries, including COBRA (Complete Business Reference Adviser), FAME, IBIS World and ProQuest.

A Beginner's Guide to Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property (IP) is protection for creativity and innovation. An understanding of IP and its protection is important for anyone with an idea, whether it’s an invention, design, brand name, literary work or a song. This session will give you the knowledge to identify the IP assets contained within your business and how best to protect them. The session will cover the four main types of IP protection – copyright, patents, trademarks and designs.

Business Gateway deliver their Business Start Up Awareness Seminar at Business & IP Centre Glasgow as well as a series of workshops to support business startup and growth from other locations.
Topics include: start up awareness, business planning, finance, taxation, marketing and a range of workshops supporting digital skills.

British Library Webinars

As well as hosting live screenings of webinars here in Business & IP Centre Glasgow – see Eventbrite and @BIPCGLasgow for details – you can also view past and upcoming webinars via the Business & IP Centre London.



Throughout the year we host live screenings of the Inspiring Entrepreneurs series of panel disuccsions from the British Library. On each occasion we also have local entrepreneurs giving talks and demonstrations in Glasgow ahead of the screening.

Annually we take part in Start Up Day, a national celebration to support business start ups with a host of free events, workshops, guest speakers and activities throughout the day
